A note from our founder

My Love Letter to You

The last few weeks have been challenging, but life keeps moving. Like so many of us, I wear many hats—the hat of simply being me and making time for myself; that of a wife, a friend, a nonprofit founder, and a project coordinator working a 9-to-5 that is rarely just nine to five.

This past week, my husband and I traveled to Jackson, Mississippi, to mourn the passing of his father. At the same time, I was preparing to celebrate 199 students who achieved perfect attendance, creating the next issue of The Share the Love Letter, and getting ready to open registration for families interested in participating in our Annual Christmas Gift Giveaway.

Thankfully, I had the support of our new Operations Manager, Julia Kilgore, who stepped in to help finalize and facilitate the plans for our pizza party. On the day of the event, our Vice President, Brian Fleming, our Volunteer Recruitment Officer, Shadaha McQueen, and our faithful volunteer, Flora McQueen, all showed up to back us up. Having them there in my corner meant the absolute world to me. Their support underscored a crucial lesson: a strong team does more than drive results—they provide the stability needed to sustain our work through life’s hardest seasons.

Walking into that room and watching the pure joy on those 199 young faces as we celebrated their dedication was a powerful turning point. Seeing our team stand together to pull it off didn’t just bring the event to life—it completely uplifted my spirit and reignited our collective energy. In the middle of grief and exhaustion, that room full of laughter and victory reminded me exactly why we do this work. It made every effort, every long hour, and every struggle worth doing and fighting for.

I was also reminded of a lesson my husband shared at his father’s service: sometimes, you have to fight like Muhammad Ali. That is how Pops lived. He fought through various illnesses, outlived doctors’ expectations, and kept going despite every challenge placed before him.

Life will bring difficult days. Responsibilities will continue, even when our hearts are heavy. But through faith, perseverance, and the support of those around us—and moments of shared joy like that pizza party—we find the strength to keep moving forward.

Sometimes, the victory is simply refusing to give up.

Share The Love Celebrates 199 Sanders Elementary Students for Perfect Attendance

There is nothing quite like the magic of watching a child's cautious steps melt into a beaming, unstoppable smile. That unforgettable joy was the heart and soul of our Share The Love Pizza Party at Sanders Elementary!

On Friday, September 11th, we gathered 199 incredible K–5th grade students in celebration for achieving perfect attendance. The moment the children stepped through the doors, they were wrapped in a wave of love. Our team showered them with applause, cheering, tight hugs, and high-fives. Sanders staff joined in with pom-poms and happy shouts, filling the room with pure, radiant energy.

Each child was honored with a:

• •Special Pizza Lunch
• •Goodie Gift Bag: Filled with cookies, bookmarks, wristbands, and pencils
• •Commemorative Certificate of Achievement

Surrounded by warm calls of “You rock!” and “I'm so proud of you!” the kids bloomed with pride, echoing back kind “thank you’s” and confident smiles: “Yeah, we really did it!”

The real beauty of the day wasn't just in the pizza or the gift bags—it was in the bright, shining light in every single child's eyes as they realized all this love was entirely for them. We left knowing the children felt loved, seen, and empowered to keep reaching for the stars.

Events like this are only possible through incredible teamwork and support from you, our love growers. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to the dedicated Sanders Elementary team: Devin Marks (School Social Worker) for helping organize the event, Dr. Tiffany Jackson (Principal), Dr. Dana Mann (Assistant Principal), and all the wonderful teachers and support staff who do an exceptional job with these students every single day.

We also appreciate our Share the Love team: Brian Fleming, Julia Kilgore, Shadaha McQueen and Flora McQueen who helped make this day a huge success.

Mission accomplished, Share The Love! Love was planted, and love is growing.
